"mornings on 2" starts right now. good morning. welcome to "mornings on 2." we unfortunately start with this -- the scene in san mateo, where part of el camino real connects to highway 92, it's shut down, as you can see. a number of police responding there as they investigate a deadly accident involving a pedestrian. it happened in the last hour and our ktvu news crew is there on the scene speaking to investigators.

their gonna -- they are gonna tell us what the investigators are saying and the effect on traffic. back to you. i'm pam cook. >> i'm dave clark. sal and the team will have all of the details on that. but steve will tell us about the weather. >> very cold air. thick fog for some. it's roaring down the coast. some of it is filtered in for some areas. higher clouds moving into the north. this is the leading edge of our big change. 30s and 40s. it's cold now. it will just get even get colder. system is up in the pacific northwest giving them rain and snow. some of this might make it into extreme northern california. i think maybe mendocino will probably the extent of anything. the cooler air rye ifers. it will still -- arrives today. it will still be mostly sunny. some very thick fog. if you don't have the forks it's probably just clear and cold. or mostly clear. it will be cool today. today will be in the 60s. temperatures will take a big plunge the next couple of days.

more on that coming up. we're following a deadly crash in san mateo on highway 92. we'll tell you about that in a moment. i do want to mention some of the other commutes we're seeing here. 580 is pretty slow. we had some earlier problems on 580 and on 680. if this is your commute, you need to get on the road early. it's more backed up than it normally is as you drive through. if you are driving over to castro valley, 880 southbound or 238 at 880, slow traffic there. slow traffic in union city. not as bad as it normally is. let's go to some live pictures. westbound bay bridge traffic looks okay. it's about a 15-minute delay. the fog is an issue this morning. also this morning we're looking at 237 if you are trying to get into the valley, already some slow traffic. a lot of people are back as you can see on this monday after the holiday. we're following breaking news on the peninsula where a pedestrian has been hit and killed by a car near one of the offramps to highway 92.

ktvu channel 2 reporter, janine de la vega tells us southbound el camino real is now shut down. janine? >> reporter: yes, the southbound lanes of el camino real between 17th and 20th is closed. so that san mateo police can investigate this accident. another closure i want to tell you about is the southbound offramp to el camino from highway 92 is also closed. more police are arriving and the coroner has come on the scene. the accident happened at 6:20 this morning. we have limited information. what we do know is that a car did hit a pedestrian that was near that offramp. again, corey nir has arrived -- coroner has arrived. we're not sure if the deceased is a man or a woman. we're waiting for a police spokesman to arrive on the -- on the scene.

i can't see the car that hit the pesh. not sure if the driver stayed on scene. they are investigating. we're trying to talk to investigators to find out what happened. this certainly is affecting traffic. this will be here, you know, for some time so that police can gather some evidence of what they can here. reporting live from san mateo, janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. a playstation 4 is the focus of a deadly shooting now under investigation in san francisco. police say it started with an internet ad and ended with gunfire. ktvu's tara moriarty is outside of the hall of justice with new information from the police chief. tara? >> reporter: yeah, we just were in contact with him. he said the department is actively pursuing leads and hopes to have the person in custody soon. we know officers have been canvassing the neighborhood where it happened. they are hoping that that video do lead to an arrest. all of this happened around 3:30 this afternoon yesterday.

the victim and his girlfriend drove to the bayview district to sell mr. playstation 4 to someone who answered an online ad. sources say the couple was accosted by a gunman who demanded the system. even when he surrendered it, the 22-year-old victim was shot several times and killed. the couple of advertised hoping to make a couple hundred dollars profit. but meeting a stranger through online ads holds obvious dangers. >> i don't know if it's unique to playstation or anything else. people do robberies. i don't know why this one transpired but we'll do all we can to investigate it. >> reporter: after he was shot, the victim and his girlfriend ended up a few weeks away on bayshore boulevard near highway 101. the woman was not hurt but the man died at san francisco general hospital. the victim's puppy was found alive in the car. coming up at 8:00ing we expect

to -- 8:00 we expect to talk to police to see exactly where they stand in the investigation. live in san francisco, i'm tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. oakland police searching for a suspect in a deadly overnight shooting. police say a man was shot to death at about 10:00 last night outside a home on coolidge avenue and school street. officers are now asking any witnesses to come forward. >> do believe there may have been some sort of vehicle involved. what the involvement was at this time, we do not know. >> it's the 84th homicide of the year in oakland. time now 7:07. a couple of small earthquakes shook the southern edge of santa clara county this morning. 3.7 quake hit about 2:05 this morning about five miles south of gilroy. the usgs actually downgraded it from an initial 3.9. then there was a 2.5 in the same area about a half-hour

later. some residents said, yeah, it woke them up. but so far there's no word of any damage or injuries. the a-gender teen set on fire while aboard a bus last month may be back at school as early as this morning. the teenager was attacked four weeks ago while he was sleeping on an a.c. transit bus. the skirt sasha was wearing was set on fire. a 16-year-old boy who has admitted to setting him on fire is still in jail. concerns about fights and bullying in west contra costa schools will be talked about at a meeting tonight. there was a fight between three girls and a transgender student. the bz transgender said he was

being bullied before the fight. we have new information about the man who was lit and killed by a car friday night near the dumbarton bridge toll plaza. he's 29-year-old louise angulo. police say he was walking on the southeast side of the -- on the east side of the bridge. police say alcohol was not a factor for the driver. it's still not clear why the man was walking along the bridge. the san francisco examiner reports the unions are pursuing possible legal action. they could file a lawsuit soon or go on strike. last week, b.a.r.t. said the paid leave was included by mistake. union leaders said it was there all along. federal investigators will examine the data recorder of a

new york commuter train to fick out what caused it to de -- figure out what caused it to detail killing four people. a locomotive, the entire train jumped the tracks. the force of theism path sent passengers flying. three of the four people who were killed were found outside of the train. our mission is to understand not just what happened but why it happened the with intent of -- it happened with the intent of preventing it to happen. >> the speed limit where the train derailed is 30 miles an hour. investigators don't know how fast this train was going. coming up, we'll take you live to the scene where the very latest on that crash. a new planned parenthood clinic said to open today on the peninsula is not being welcomed by everyone in the area. the new clinic is on el camino

real. it will provide primary health services and abortions. some people are circulating a petition to get the clinic moved saying it will decrease property values. dozens of billboards promoting atheism are being unveiled. they feature area residents and quotes why they say they are nonbelievers. all 55 billboards have been paid for by the freedom from religion organization. >> we're trying to encourage others to speak up, especially this time of year when we're so inundated by jesus stories and the music when you shop and everywhere. >> supporters say the billboards are meant to speak to atheists as part of the come out of the closet campaign. they will stay up for one month. 7:11. still alive after being under

welcome back. investigators are still trying to drl the cause of a fiery car crash that killed paul walker over the weekend. walker's friend was driving the porsche that slammed into a light pole and burst into flames. fans have been going to the crash scene lighting candles and placing flowers at the spot where walker died. >> he's a family-oriented guy. really humble, sweet guy. everyone loves the movies, you flow. it's just devastating. really devastating. >> investigators say speed was, indeed, a factor in the crash. a yellow honda sports car was seen parked near the crash site. there's speculation it may have been racing the porsche but that's not confirmed yet. walker was in the area for a charity event for the victims of typhoon haiyan. and tyrese gibson, he went to the crash site. you can see how upset he was. he placed a single rose down

and also picked up a piece of the wreckage. tyrese gibson had started with walker in some of the "fast and furious" movies. they were right in the process of shooting a 7th installment of that movie series. millions of online shoppers will shop today for cyber monday. according to shopper track, online sales are expected to be a huge hit this year. analysts say the sales could reach $2 billion. last year online sales hit 1.5 billion. the national retail federation seas eight in ten retailers are offering special cyber monday deals. a lot of them free shipping as well. speaking of ship, cyber monday is forcing fed-ex to prepare for its busiest day in history. by the end of today, fed-ex is expected to move about 22 million packages. it won't be until the end of the holiday season that fed-ex employees can slow down. on december 9th and 15th, they are expected to move an

additional 20 million packages each day. spending appears done town. one trade group says 141 million people shopped in stores and online between thanksgiving and sunday. last year, that number was 137 million. the national retail federation says shoppers spent less this year than last year. they say spending fell 2.9%. well, police officers in fremont will use bikes to crack down on crime at shopping centers this holiday season. the department will have teams of two bicycle police officers that will be sent to shopping centers every weekend until december 29th. the bicycle patrols will add mobility also increase the range of traditional foot patrols, especially on crowded sidewalks and in parking lots. large numbers of monarch butterflies are meaug greating to bridges state beaches and

now off el camino real in the area. and the freeway traffic above is also a little bit slow because people cannot get off on highway -- on the el camino real, the certain exits here. you can see traffic on the freeway is slowing down. now, northbound traffic is getting through. but as we see, traffic is being kind of funneled down as you approach the 92 exit. this is because of a fatal crash involving a pedestrian and a car and a lot of san mateo police are on the scene along with the county coroner doing the investigation right now. let's take a look at the live picture of the bay bridge toll plaza. it is backed up for about a 15 to 20-minute delay. nothing more than that. the fog seems to have lifted a little bit. better visibility getting across into san francisco. if you are driving on the freeways on castro valley, 580 looks good. 880 a little bit slow as you head down towards hayward and fremont. let's go to steve.

all right. thank you, sal. well, sunrise looks good for some. beautiful up towards the sierra as well. if you are in the fog, you are like, i can't see a thing. today that tweener day or transition day. it's definitely an increase in some of the fog today. we'll see a cooler pattern. the big-time cooling starts tomorrow and kicks in and drops in wednesday and thursday. it will be mostly sunny but that fog racing down the coast and filling in around the bay. some higher clouds to the north, especially mendocino county and lake county. it's cold. 30s and 40s for some 50, half moon bay. 34, santa rosa. novato, same for fairfield, 38 walnut creek. it will be tough to get above 58, 59. snow, rain is up in seattle and portland. there's not a lot with this. but they are getting of that -- getting some of that. maybe an isolated shower

tomorrow. really the cold air is the big story. we'll drop 5, 10 degrees tomorrow for sure as highs go in the upper 30s and 40s. today will be cooler. inland temperatures will struggle to get over 49 degrees as we head to wednesday and thursday. not a lot of rain with this system. we start off with the fog. mostly sunny. wind picks up. some clouds to the north bay. but temperatures, well they will be in the 60s today and then a lot of 50s tomorrow. low to mid-60s here. san rafael, 63. 63 walnut creek, alameda at 60. morgan hill, 66. gilroy will be one of the warmest at 67. 50s if you have the fog. it's -- i know brandon in pacifica -- i think he said 46, 48, damp and cold. the big news, again, will be wednesday, thursday, friday. there is will be lows in the 20s inland. even along the coast, low to

welcome back to "mornings on 2." the u.s. congress gets back to work today for the last december push before their break. according to congressional records, there have been fewer than 60 public laws he acted by the -- enacted by congress in the first half of the year.

that's the lowest number ever. among the unfinished business, confirmation of janet yellen, passage of a farm bill currently held up byes ady greet of funding levels for food stamps. another item on congress's must- do list is renewing a law to prohibits weapons manufacturers for making guns that cannot be detected by security systems. 7:25. the napa city council is due to meet tomorrow on whether to repeal a controversial mel marijuana medical ordinance. the city attorneys have recommended repealing the ordinance over concerns allowing clinics to open would lead the city vulnerable to federal prosecution.

but steve, our weather is gonna change beyond what we see today. >> the big change has been the fog. some of it very thick. patrick in redwood shores says san mateo bridge, chris near san bruno says it's come crashing in over the hills. alameda, really thick here. higher clouds coming in from the north. that's the leading edge of our system. it's still cold inland. 30s cold. napa, upper 30s, mid-40s as well. any precip so far seems to be confined to the pacific northwest. some of that is inching towards northern california. for us, the main impact will be a partly to mostly sunny day especially from everywhere i think the north bay where they will get a few clouds. it will be sunny today. it will be cooler. the wind will pick up. the cold air begins to filter in and drops in here by wednesday morning. low to mid-60s. here's sal. >> we have a fatal collision between a car and a pedestrian in san mateo. that's been there now for almost an hour. southbound el camino real which

is what you are seeing right here is being tie verted on qnd -- diverted on westbound 92. northbound traffic is getting through. this is going to be here for a while as with any fatal collision. the investigation is rather long. one of the ways you can get around it. if you want to get on the freeway, you can just go up to alameda and use that. i would recommend that to get on the freeway. if you are just driving for a few blocks around the scene. you can use palm avenue. just make a left on 17th. make a right on palm. that will take you past toward the closure or you can use south delaware street. both streets will put you parallel and you can go around the problem and april void this. you can see -- avoid this. you can see people are causing a little bit of a traffic jam on e.c.r. here. bay bridge toll plaza is backed under all the way out to the macarthur maze. in most of the lanes, it's

backed up for a 20, 25-minute delay. i want to look at the maps in contra costa county. you can see a lot of red on the maps. pockets into richmond. highway 4 is not bad. but 680 is slow from concord to walnut creek. you can see highway 4 persistent slow traffic through the construction zone. let's go back to the desk. a warning from police in vallejo after three atm robberies in one week. alex savidge is in the area now to tell us the mistakes some victims are making out there. >> reporter: well, vallejo police say inative -- inattentive atm users are forgetting to close out their transactions before they walk away. we just saw a woman do that a short time ago. that can leave an opening for thieves who will sneak in and they are able too take out money according to -- to take out money according to police. the same senator has played out here at banks in vallejo.

the latest crime, yesterday. at this bank of america on sonoma boulevard. this is where a woman was robbed after she left her account opened. police say the victim was taking out money around 2:30 in the afternoon when she noticed the man at the atm next to her. the woman started to walk away, then saw that man move over to the same atm that she had been using and the victim realized that she had not closed out other transaction. she tried to stop the man but police say he grabbed the woman by the neck, ined her tense a -- pinned her against the wall, took out crash from her account and ran off. >> if you step away before that closes out, that opens an opportunity for someone that would want to prey on your inattention. >> police don't believe the same person is behind all three of these similar crimes that have happened in the past week in vallejo. of course, during the holidays this morning to stay cautious

creek while fishing with his grandmother on saturday. rescue crews rushed the child to the hospital in critical condition but now he's likely to make a full recovery. they credit the child's age and the temperature of the water with saving his life. >> if the water is cold enough, then it also puts them into a state of shock. it actually preserves the cardiac and brain function. >> rescuers say if the child had not been wearing a white shirt, it would have been much more difficult to spot him in the murky water. the stench of smoke permeates the hall weaus of an apartment building an after a fire that started in the garbage room. the building is on continental way. smoke got if through a garbage chute. >> what happened, was the garbage can caught on fire somehow. fire spread up the garbage chute into the third and second floors. >> the chief says most of the smoke was on the third floor so

the first crews on scene looked there for the fire. the second crew arrived and helped out. no one was hurt. >> reports that an off-duty firefighter helped pull people to safety on interstate 580. here's video of the tow truck mauling away a burned out volkswagen beetle. the car went up in flames near the highway 24 connector. the chp says the fire did block the connector but no one was hurt. this week sonoma county supervisors are expected to build a park in honor of a teenaged boy shot and killed by a sheriff's deputy. a memorial with flowers and pictures was created for 13- year-old andy lopez near the spot where he was shot. lopez was killed when the deputy mistakenly thought the toy gun he was holding was real. the press democrat reports that supervisors are mulling over a

few ideas crud -- including a park in the moreland avenue neighborhood where lopez grew up and died. supervisors are due to talk about the issue tomorrow. federal investigators will examine the new york train's data recorder to try to determine what caused it to derail, killing four people and injuring more than 60 others. chris welch is in new york with the latest on the investigation. good morning, chris. >> reporter: well, good morning, pam. ntsb investigators have been on the scene throughout the night. they are still here today. what they are doing is trying to put some of the cars on the tracks upright again. but still no answer as to what caused the train to go off the tracks. this jarring image of a passenger train turned on its side can't compare to what passengers inside the train saw and heard. >> i heard a lot of crunching and grinding. i started to see stars in front of my eyes and i thought is

this the end. >> reporter: nobody walked way uneffected. >> this will be a trying thing for them to get back on the train. >> reporter: investigators from the ntsb will review data from event recorders recovered from the scene. similar to what would be found on an airplane. >> the data from the boxes will give us insight into what was going on at the time. we'll combine that with other information, with other activities. >> reporter: a locomotive was pushing seven passenger cars around a 30-mile-an-hour curve when the whole train left the tracks. investigators don't know how fast it was going. >> the mta will be cooperating fully with the ntsb in this investigation. the mta wants to know as much as anyone what happened with this accident if there's a lesson to be learned because safety is job one. >> reporter: passengers trying

commute problems. sal, what's happening on the peninsula? >> in san mateo, we have the problem on el camino real that's shut down at 92. this is because of a fatal collision involving two dars and a ped. now -- two cars and a pedestrian. now, police say there's one car that's outstanding. it's a white buick last scene southbound from highway 92 probably on el camino real. janine de la vega is on the scene. she's been asking questions of the authorities and she will have more on this coming up at the top of the hour. but we want you to aslide el camino real. you can -- avoid el camino real. you can use delaware street or go a short distance on palm avenue. that would be better. avoid this area. and 92 nearby which is what you see up there, that's crowded. as george turns to the left, you can see how el camino real is a big mess heading southbound. i would recommend just avoiding it and getting on delaware instead. let's take a look at some other

state game wardens now have a nonlethal option for relocating mountain lions that somehow wander into residential areas. the of two cubs in half moon bay last summer prompted this new law. senator jerry hill introduced a bill allowing game wardens to partner with nonprofits to safely capture and relocate mountain lions, whereas in the past, they were only allowed to shoot and kill them. >> they always have to look at public safety first. this gives them the opportunity to make other decisions. >> the new law takes effect -- takes effect january 1st but the department of fish and wildlife has changed its operating procedures. so far, seven mountain lions around the state have been safely moved. a former walnut creek police officer has won the use

it's coming right down the coast. some of that has filled in for the bay. it looks like it's lifting a little bit. this is just the beginning of not -- it's a dynamic system in the form of -- it will give us cold air. a lot of 30s here. some of these temperatures might seem warm as we head towards wednesday and thursday. all of the more act ivelt weather and snow is up in the pacific northwest. some of it went through portland. there's been some rain towards crescent city. not a lot. we're going to see a few high clouds here. the breeze is going to pick up as well. that will start to cool things down today. 50s and 60s. temperatures -- this might be the warmest day of the week. they will be on the cool side. not as warm as sunday. the wind picks up. a few high clouds overall, 50s to low and mid-60s. we do have problems around the bay area. we're gonna start with a look at the foggy conditions that you just mentioned on the eastshore freeway. you can kind of see, we won't

be able to show you the entire picture, because it's foggy. this little snippette is what we can show you. the traffic is moderately heavy in from hercules. i will show you that on the map in a moment. at the bay bridge, we have a backup that's about 20, 25 minutes. some of the left lanes are not getting a lot of use. trust me. it will be that long unless you use the carpool lane. i mentioned the east shore, all the way from hercules this morning, it's backed up as you drive over to the berkeley area. now, b.a.r.t., caltrain and muni are reporting any delays. we're also following a very tragic accident in san mateo. this is breaking news on the peninsula. a pedestrian has been hit and killed by a car and parts of el camino real have been shut down. ktvu's janine de la vega is live on the scene with more information on what happened. janine? >> reporter: sal, you can see that traffic is really tied up here in the southbound lanes on el camino real. now the only way you can get on 92 from el camino real is the

southbound lanes. that's if you just want to go westbound on 92. el camino real is closed from borel avenue to 20th because of this deadly accident. police say a car hit a man on el camino real near highway 92 at about 6:15 this morning. he died at the scene. the police closed off the road to investigate and gather evidence. they are calling this a hit and run because they've determined that two vehicles were involved in the accident. >> there appears to be two vehicles involved. one vehicle that remained here at the scene. the other vehicle that fled the scene, swhoi a white buick. it was last seen fleeing southbound on el camino real. that's all we know at this point. as we're gathering more information about the investigation. >> reporter: that white buick was last seen traveling southbound on el camino real from 92. at this point, we don't have a license plate number. again, police are still trying to gather evidence.

than the fact they were from hayes valley. we did talk to chief suhr this morning and he says his department is actively pursuing leads and they hope to have a suspect in custody soon. this happened at 3:30 yesterday afternoon. broad daylight. the victim and his girlfriend drove to the bayview in their suv to sell their playstation to someone who answered an online ad. sources say the couple was accosted by a gunman. even when he surrendered it, the 22-year-old victim was shot several times. >> drove away from the scene as soon as they could. and contacted police and they called an ambulance. >> the victim and his girlfriend ended up bayshore boulevard near highway 101. the woman was not hurt but the man died at san francisco general hospital. their puppy was found inside

this morning. no reports of any damage or injuries. 8:06. we have new information this morning about the man who was hit and killed by a man friday night near the dumbarton bridge toll plaza. he's been identified as 21-year- old lewis angulo of santa clara. police say he was walking on the east side of the bridge when he was hit by a westbound car. investigators say alcohol was not a factor for the driver. still not clear why he was walking along the bridge. the unions involved in the crt dispute with b.a.r.t. say they might sue this weekend. the examiner reports the unions are pursuing possible legal action. they could file a lawsuit soon or possibly go on strike. last month, b.a.r.t.'s board of directors removed a provision granting six weeks of family leave. b.a.r.t. says the clause was included by mistake. union leaders claim it was there all along. they say what the board did is illegal. millions of online shoppers

hug them, the purpose is to help soothe the frayed nerves of stressed out passengers. they are known as the wag brig aids and will have vests that simply say "pet me." >> i love that. great idea. let's check back in with sal. unfortunately a very rough spot in the commute this morning. we've had a couple of spots. this one is the worse of the bay area in san mateo. we have el camino real, it's still closed for the investigation of a deadly ped crash. it's a hit and run. part of el camino real is shut down until they finish the investigation and traffic is being diverted onto westbound 92 which, by the way, is putting more pressure on nearby highway 92. if you want to avoid all of this, you might want to use delaware as an alternate or even make a left on 17th and go down palm for a few weeks. avoid this bottleneck. as you can see, it's causing a lot of slow traffic. on 92, especially westbound, it is going to be slow.

mateo. you can see that southbound el camino real, which is what you are looking at here, is being diverted ontario westbound 92 because of this fatal collision about two and a half hours' old new. police were looking for a vehicle that took off, a white buick. but that, according to a tweet from the san mateo police department, has been located. and they are now investigating. so two cars were involved. one car took off. the police department did locate the second vehicle. janine de la vega will have more on this coming up in just a few minutes. there's also a warning from police in vallejo after three atm robberies in aing with. alex savidge is live at the scene to el it us what the robbery victims had in common -- to tell us what the robbery victims had in common. criminals are going after atm viewers who failed to close out

their transactions. that can leave your account open. police say this same scenario has played out three times. in fact, we watched a short time ago, it's one woman who made that exact same mistake at this bank. in her defense, she said she was distracted by the news cruise outside the bank and is normally very cautious. >> make sure i push that i'm done button. and i keep my eyes around my surroundings. i'm not stupid. i was boesch here. [laughter] >> reporter: yesterday, around 2:30 in the afternoon, police say a woman was robbed at this bank of america on sonoma boulevard. she failed to end her atm transaction and began to walk away. that's when she noticed a man walk over to the same atm she was using. the victim realized she had not closed out the transaction. she tried to stop the man and that's when the situation turned violent. >> when she tried to interrupt

making a strong recovery and is off life support, fully functioning. family members say the 2-year- old fell into the water at blue rock springs creek saturday afternoon while fishing with his grandmother. rescue crews rushed the child to the hospital in critical condition and now say he is likely to make a full recovery. they credit the child's age and the temperature of the water with saving his life. >> if the water is cold enough, then it also putting them into a -- puts them into a state of shock. it preserves the cardiac and brain function. >> reporter: rescuers also say the child had not been wearing a whoot -- if the child had not been wearing a white shirt, it would have been much more difficult to spot the child. a very close call with a garbage fire started last night in an apartment, in the garbage room of the timber lane apartments in belmont. the building is on continental ray off ralston avenue.

the smoke got in through a garbage chute. >> the garbage can caught on fire somehow. it's under investigation. and fire spread up the garbage chute into the third and second floors. >> the battalion chief said most of the smoke was on the third floor. the first crews on the scene looking for the fire up there. a second group came, they helped the first group and discovered the fire was on the ground floor. they put it out. the report says an off-duty firefighter was the one who helped pull them to safety in oakland. here's a video of the tow truck hauling away the volkswagen yesterday morning. the car went up in flames on the 580 flyover on the connector. the chp says the fire blocked the connector road but no one was hurt. this week sonoma county supervisors are expected to consider building a park in honor of the teenaged boy shot

and killed by a sheriff's deputy. a memorial was created for 13- year-old andy lopez near the spot where he was shot. lopez was killed when the deputy thought the gun lopez was carrying was a real weapon. supervisors are mulling over a few ideas including a park where lopez grew up. the supervisors are expected to discuss the issue tomorrow. the numbers are in for thanksgiving holiday arrests. the chp and law enforcement from all over the state active -- actively patrolled the roads looking for impaired drivers. according to the chp. they arrested nearly 200 people around the bay area. 1,073 people were arrested statewide. 8:37. federal investigators will examine the data recorder of a new york commuter train to figure out why that train detailed filling four people and injuring more than 60.

yesterday, a locomotive was pushing seven passenger cars around a curve when the train julyed the tracks. the bodies of three of the four people who died were found outside of the train -- outside the train. this morning one survivor talked about the experience. >> when it landed, i fell to the side where the windows had been smashed out into the ground. all of the windows had broken through, gravel and glass that lined the tracks why flying into the windows. >> the speed limit around the curve, 30 miles an hour. investigators doesn't know how fast that train was growing. a san carlos gas pipeline under scrutiny about the safety is going back into service today. pg&e says the line will run well below the normal pressure. the line was taken out of service in early october when questions about the safety were raised by an engineer who worried old welding could cause another blast like the san

bruno disaster. san carlos city officials say the pipeline still needs further testing and upgrades. a meting is scheduled for tomorrow for treasure island rezs about a major -- residents about a major cleanup. some are being moved. residents will likely be moved to other housing on the island. the navy says despite the chemical cleanup, treasure island is a special place to live. cold weather shelters are opening tonight before the temperatures start to fall in the 30s. you heard steve talk about the forecast. three shelters in santa clara county are due to open at 6:00. ehc live builders, a group, says they will provide 275 beds in sunnyvale, san jose and gilroy. they are reserving some of the beds for veterans and for people who are willing to enter their programs. more than 7500 homeless people are in the santa clara county

now. detectives in san francisco checking leads and checking surveillance video after a man was robbed shot and killed while trying to sell a playstation 4 video system. the police hope to have that gunman under arrest soon. millions of people will let their fingers shop on this cyber monday. the national retail federation says eight in ten retailers are offering special cyber monday deals. and we are still following the breaking news on the peninsula. police out there investigating a deadly hit-and-run crash. a pedestrian was killed this morning on el camino real about 6:30 this morning. but there is a new development that just came in about 15 minutes ago. ktvu's janine de la vega, you are here now. one of the cars involved has been found. janine? >> reporter: yes. a white buick that police officers were looking for has been located on eastbound 92. as far as the status of the

driver goes, we don't know if they've caught the driver. you can see here traffic is tied up on el camino real. the only way you can get on 92 from el camino real is from the southbound lanes and that's if you want to get on westbound. now, el camino real still remains closed from boral avenue to 20th street so police can investigate. let's go to video we shot earlier. police say a man -- police say a car hit a man on el camino real near highway 29 at -- highway 92 at about 6:15. the emergency crews responded. the man died at the scene. police closed off the road to investigate. they are calling this a hit-and- run accident because they have determined that two vehicles were involved. now, one of the cars stayed. police interviewed that driver. they are saying that the car that left the scene was the whoot bu -- was the white buick that i said before and was last seen going southbound on el camino real from 92.
